TobyMac may have been the headliner on the “Hits Deep” Tour, but the expansive evening was just as much about showcasing a multi-genre melting pot of talent as it was supporting his latest number one Billboard album Eye On It (Forefront).

While the multi-platinum superstar made sure to address many danceable mega-hits (“Tonight,” “Speak Life,” Boomin’”) alongside the always well-oiled Diverse City Band, the night will probably best be remembered for its once-in-a-lifetime-collaborations.

Support acts as varied as singer/songwriter Brandon Heath and soul star Mandisa could just as comfortably tag team with one another as piano rocker Colton Dixon and acoustic popper Jaime Grace, trading boundaries of style and culture for joyful musical fellowship.

Mac also made many pairings throughout the marathon, including troubadour Chris August come the unplugged classic “In The Light,” electro-hip hop protégés Capital Kings for the jam “Get Back Up” and the full cast on “Me Without You,” the funky, confetti-adorned finale that capped off the communal party.
