Maybe you’ve heard the buzz surrounding hip indie rockers Colony House. Their debut When I Was Younger (buy) caught the attention of music fans beyond the contemporary Christian music world, earning attention from NPR music, alternative radio airplay, a spot on iTunes alt-rock chart, and an appearance on Late Night with Seth Myers. But it’s been quite a musical journey for Caleb and Will Chapman, two brothers practically born into music. With the release of their sophomore release Only The Lonely (buy), we thought it’d be fun to reflect on the past musical adventures of the Brothers Chapman!

Early Days with Dad
It’s no secret that icon Steven Curtis Chapman is beyond proud of his kids and has been guiding their musical adventures since they could reach their instruments. They performed with him for a while as Two Car Garage, grew up to back him on multiple tours, and in 2003 recorded a song with him under the name Stevenson. Okay, so their one-off rock ‘n roll take on “I Love My Lips” is probably obscure history by now, but totally worth revisiting for fun.


The Following
Sometime around 2007 or 2008, the Chapman brothers played backup for their dad on Winter Jam, and with a couple other friends played some songs as The Following (as well as a memorable rooftop performance with New Zealand’s Detour 180 and Rapture Ruckus at downtown Nashville’s McKendree UMC, where current CCM Magazine Managing Editor Kevin Sparkman once worked). You could say it was the foundation of their current musical career, with a simple three-song EP, and the early development of their sound. (Their MySpace Page still exists, by the way!)
