Fernando Ortega’s The Crucifixion Of Jesus is a countercultural gift, a deeply moving meditation on the events of Holy Week that draws the listener in for a rooted musical experience. Ortega’s signature thoughtful melodies are interspersed with spoken narrative tracks that richly tell the story of Jesus’ arrest, death and resurrection, meditating on the emotions and experiences throughout. Few artists choose to mine such important material in such meaningful ways, but Ortega is well-suited for such a task. The end result is a beautiful album and an important devotional for followers of Jesus.
