To say that 2018 is set up to be a big year for MercyMe would be a huge understatement. Riding on the momentum of their 2017 release Lifer (buy), this year will see their forerunning hit “I Can Only Imagine” become the center of a feature film of the same name about front man Bart Millard‘s life story (with none other than Dennis Quaid playing Millard’s father in the film, releasing in theaters Mar. 16, 2018!). Millard has also released the companion book, I Can Only Imagine: A Memoir (buy) and new children’s book on the way (I Can Only Imagine – A Friendship With Jesus Now And Forever, buy) and to top it all off, the band has given us an audio recap of their stellar career through the release of I Can Only Imagine – The Very Best Of MercyMe (buy). Bookended by the flagship “I Can Only Imagine” (“The Movie Session”—buy single—to kickoff the collection, with the original recording capping the album), the lineup features all the best highlights from a band that came from nowhere to becoming a charting staple. All the favorites are here, spanning singles on every release from 2001’s Almost There (buy) to 2014’s Welcome To The New (buy). If 2018 is the year of MercyMe, this is definitely the official soundtrack.
