If you’re an independent artist, there are a lot of things you have to think about in order to enhance your career. You do everything you can to perfect your music by focusing on your songwriting, production capabilities, and overall artistic direction. You use various promotional outlets to advertise yourself and your music. But when all of this is said and done, there is still one thing you should be doing throughout this entire process in order to seal the deal: networking, networking, networking.
Even the most talented musician can’t get very far without knowing the right people. Educate yourself about the business side of the music industry, and meet as many people as you can to connect you from Point A to Point B. Independent artists can be vulnerable in this industry, especially because they’re not always going to be graced with an entourage who can take care of every aspect of their careers. Even when you do get to that point, it’s still incredibly helpful to understand the business so you can properly negotiate deals and relationships throughout your career. Meeting as many people as you can and making connections is one of the best ways to do this and quickly climb to the top.
Luckily, there are many resources available to help you become a pro in this realm in no time. Conferences are a great way to network with industry professionals and learn everything you need to know about the logistics of an independent career. And fortunately, these types of gatherings are always taking place, such at this summer’s upcoming Indie Ignite, a conference specifically geared towards independent Christian artists, worship leaders, and organizations.
Michael Blanton, President and owner of BE Music & Entertainment, will join a panel of noteworthy speakers at this year’s Indie Ignite in order to answer YOUR questions about topics involving the music industry, going independent, and how he has helped launch independent artists into some of the biggest names in Christian music (Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith, anyone?). And the best part about this panel? You have complete control over the topics of conversation – submit your questions for Michael to [email protected].
This year’s Indie Ignite will be held on July 7th and 8th in Nashville, Tennessee. Visit indieigniteconference.com for more details.
