For the second year in a row, Dove Awards were held at the historic Fox Theater in Atlanta. A red carpet, standout performances and well-earned awards made the night memorable and special for all in attendance.
For those planning to watch the awards this coming Tuesday on the Gospel Music Channel and don’t want to know the winners beforehand, look away. For everyone else, read on.
Jason Crabb was the big name of the night. Walking away with both Male Vocalist of the Year and Artist of the Year, a choked-up Jason was humbled and grateful for the acknowledgment.
Another familiar face reclaimed her throne. Natalie Grant took home her fifth Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year. Her previous streak only broken by Francesca Battistelli.
New Artist of the Year went to a shocked Jamie Grace, who teared up during her acceptance speech. The twenty year old has managed to live with Tourettes Syndrome for about half her life and is preparing to graduate from college in three weeks. Her parents were both on hand to watch their daughter.
A pregnant Laura Story (who, at twenty weeks, just learned that she’s having a girl!) was on hand to take home Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year for “Blessings.” She was beaming, humbled and honored.
NEEDTOBREATHE once again took home group of the year, but were not there to accept the award.
Other standout moments of the night included a tribute to Whitney Houston, including Angie Stone, Crystal Lewis, Yolanda Adams and Karen Peck, a tribute to Russ Taff and a continuous stream of witty banter from co-hosts Chonda Pierce (comedian) and David Mann (from Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.)
