NEW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Getting To Know Randy Seedoriff

Randy Seedorff has been writing and performing for over 30 years, with
his interest in music starting at the young age of 11 when his mother
 gave him his first guitar. A veteran singer, and songwriter, Randy 
comes from a musical family with a strong heritage in country music.

In 1992 Randy joined the popular Kansas City-based bluegrass group
 Greenside Up as its lead singer and guitarist and performed with them
until 1999. During that time he fell victim to an armed robbery that 
profoundly changed his life. The experience turned his full attention
 to both his life and music, and he rededicated himself to serving God.

Randy founded the group Soul Purpose in 2010. They released their
 studio album Rearview Mirror, produced by Larry Gann of Awe Struck
 Studios in 2014. Randy released his 7 track EP, Elevate, in 2017. The
first two releases from that project reached number 1 on Christian Radio
Charts. His latest release, “Begin Again,” also with Gann, has produced
 two international #1 iTunes singles, “Family Tree” and “Dream.”

Randy serves as pastor of worship and discipleship at Trinity Church of
the Nazarene in Independence, MO. Soul Purpose plays frequently at
churches, festivals and other events, bringing the love of God, through 
the vehicle of music to as many people as possible.

Hobbies/Interests Apart from Music: I love to read and do so as often as
 I have time for. I am an ordained minister so reading is a big part of
what I do for my preparation. Being a bookworm has a wonderful
bi-product; it stimulates the creative side of me that is a songwriter.

Very First Musical Purchase: I bought an Alvarez 12 string at Rich
 Roberts’s music center in Kansas City Missouri. I had borrowed a guitar
from my mother that I had played for years. The Alvarez was my first
 guitar purchase and I played it a lot! The handle broke loose from the
case when I was walking down a flight of concrete stairs. When I opened 
the case which had tumbled end over end to the bottom of the stairs it
was broken in several places and unrepairable.

Do you have a favorite song from your album Begin Again?  Why? My 
favorite song from Begin Again is Family Tree. I believe that every 
person has some landmark experiences in their lives that have in part
influenced and formed who they are as a person. For me, that was growing
up in a musical family that loved to sing together. Nothing changes us 
like the birth of our children. The moment we first lay our eyes on
them is an unforgettable experience. My salvation experience was the
most important moment in my life. Every decision I have made since that 
day has been influenced by my relationship with Christ.

If you could potentially tour with any other artist or band (that you 
haven’t already), who would you choose and why? I have loved Steven
 Curtis Chapman’s songwriting for many years. He is one of the most
 awarded Christian artists of all time. I saw him on his solo tour last 
year with just him and his guitar and he was amazing. His songs tell a
 great story that everyone needs to hear! I would really enjoy touring
 with SCC!!

What was the last song you listened to on your playlist or stereo?
 “Mention of Your Name” by Brian and Jenn Johnson. What an amazing song 
of worship!

What was the last book you read? I re-read “A Long Obedience in the Same
 Direction” by Eugene Peterson the translator of The Message. The book 
is about a consistent purpose and direction in our personal spiritual f
ormation. He urges us to be intentional and steadily moving forward
on our spiritual journey.

How important is your faith or spirituality within your music? The
 Message says in Hebrews 12:1-2, “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who began and
 finished the race we are in. Study how he did it. Because he never 
lost sight of where he was headed.” In my music my goal is to keep my 
eyes on Jesus.

What message do you hope listeners will take away from your music,
regardless of what they believe? I believe there is a message of hope
 in our music. Since the beginning, God has been about providing a way
for redemption, forgiveness, and new life through Christ. Ezekiel 36:26
says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you; I will 
remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” I 
pray that those who hear are music will be encouraged that the love of
 God changes hearts.
