Allie Crummy is releasing her third studio album, Honesty, on October 29th, along with a single by that same name. The album explores the theme of vulnerability, and the freedom that we have to express our honest emotions to the Lord through Christ.
The title track, ‘Honesty’ is a meditation on how the Incarnation enables us to enjoy a deeper level of intimacy with God; He not only understands our thoughts from afar, but He also sympathizes with our weaknesses, as One who experientially understands the whole range of human emotions. The song has a pop beat and feel, while remaining true to Allie’s roots/indie-folk aesthetic.
‘Still Be You,’ the second track on the album, features St. Louis based musician, Russ Mohr, on vocals and trumpet. “I loved working with Russ and this ended up being my favorite song on the album,” says Allie. ‘Still Be You’ is upbeat, with lots of acoustic instruments, lots of harmonies, and also a brass ensemble, with a brilliantly played trumpet solo by Russ. The combination of all these elements plus the male/female vocal duet will appeal to fans of The Lone Bellow, Wild Rivers, and CAIN.
Other songs on the album, like ‘Joy’ and ‘Pleasant Places’ stay true to the roots/indie-folk genre, while ‘Stone Tablets’ and ‘Fascinated by You’ are singer-songwriter ballads, with minimal instrumentation and emotionally evocative lyrics and vocals. There is something for everyone in this album, and fans of Ellie Holcomb, We The Kingdom, Jess Ray, and Chris Renzema will especially enjoy it.
Allie Crummy is a singer/songwriter based in Des Moines, Iowa. She has a passion for expressing her faith through music, and has served in her local community, regularly leading worship for over 15 years. In her songwriting, she is contemplative—a deep thinker who is well versed in and routinely inspired by Scripture. She does not write superficial or surface-level lyrics; rather her songs reflect the tension between what she believes to be true about God, contrasted with what she sees happening in the world around her, and hopefully will leave the listener with a thought or question to ponder.
