Fresno-based worship leader and songwriter John Leckenby has just released a new worship song called “Promise.”
“Promise” is a triumphant song designed for the church to sing, a statement of faith and confidence founded on Christ for both the congregation and the individual.
“It’s like an anthem for my life,” said Leckenby. “It’s about the one promise that can sustain us in our lives, and that is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
The song’s lyric is packed with timeless proclamations of hope, joy, and faith. The dynamics of the music match that energy, providing a powerful backdrop for a powerful message.
The song was recorded with co-producer and engineer/instrumentalist Zeke Bernal in Visalia, CA. Drums were performed by Jacob Arnold (Passion, Elevation Worship), with final mix and master provided by Sam Hart (Aaron Shust, Paul Wright).
For Leckenby, the purpose and message of the song is simple. “Whether you are on the mountaintop of life or you’re in the valley going through life’s toughest losses, you have a promise,” he shared. “If your promise and your purpose is the resurrection of Jesus Christ, you can truly sing the words ‘death can’t touch me now.’ That is the eternal promise Jesus gives, and that is what this song is about.”
John Leckenby serves as Worship and Creative Arts Pastor at Northwest Church in Fresno, CA. In addition to sharing and singing “Promise,” he plans to release more music in the near future, having recently recorded demos for a new song in the making.
Leckenby’s ultimate goal in worship songwriting is to create songs that facilitate environments for people to encounter the Presence of God. His prayer is that the new song “Promise” will serve that same purpose, bringing hope and life to all who listen.
