As a pivotal part of Platoon’s new EP, ‘A UK Gospel Celebration,’ award-winning artist Sharyn unveils her captivating new single, ‘Divine.’ This marks the dawn of a new era for Sharyn, where her heartfelt vocals serve as a vessel to narrate a tale of divine love that empowers change and fosters understanding.
Since her introduction in 2019, Sharyn has consistently showcased her versatility, effortlessly traversing genres from afrobeats to R&B, soul, garage, house, and pop. There are no boundaries to the soundscapes she explores, and her artistry knows no limits. In just a few short years, Sharyn has achieved millions of streams and garnered radio play from renowned stations such as BBC 1 and BBC1XTRA.
Citing musical luminaries like Kirk Franklin, Labrinth, Mary Mary, and Emeli Sande as some of her influences, their inspiration reverberates throughout her latest album, ‘In Full Bloom.’ This remarkable project, written, produced, self-funded, and recorded during the pandemic, epitomises Sharyn’s unique soulful tone and sound. Her mission is clear: to deliver a message of hope, inspiration, and purpose to society through her artistry.
With features in esteemed publications such as CLASH, 1883 Magazine, Pause, Complex, NOTION, and many more, Sharyn has soared to great heights in a short span. Her achievements include winning Best Female Vocalist at the Premier Gospel Awards in 2022. In just two years, her debut album ‘In Full Bloom’ amassed over 2 million streams across all platforms and trended on social media platforms like Twitter.
With ‘Divine,’ Sharyn adds an extra layer of class and finesse to her repertoire. ‘Divine’ extends a heartfelt invitation to listeners, encouraging them to forge a profoundly emotional and spiritual connection with its lyrics. Rooted in the core influence of 80’s pop, the song retains its essence while infusing it with a stripped-down authenticity and an irresistible groove.
The song welcomes you with layered harmonies that exude an immediate sense of spirituality and resonance. Sharyn’s melodies gracefully intertwine with the rhythmic and vibrant production, weaving together gospel, R&B, and 80s pop nuances in a soothing and calming offering.
Sharyn says “Divine was born towards the end of the pandemic. A time when many of us underwent changes, had numerous questions, and sought comfort in various things. Yet, in the darkest and loneliest of nights, there is a cosmic love that relates to the pain and uncertainties we face daily. ‘Divine’ celebrates God’s love and the essence of Jesus, inspiring us to become more.”
It’s a beautifully composed track, with Sharyn’s distinctive vocal tonality reflecting an infectious energy that’s uniquely hers. ‘Divine’ embodies everything that Sharyn has evolved into as an artist, and it represents her beautifully.
Sharyn also combined with the brilliant Folabi Nuel on Donnie McClurkin’s classic ‘Great Is Your Mercy’ which was a dream collaboration for her and it seeps through in this memorable performance by the pair.
She says “It is such an honour to sing a rendition of one of my favourite gospel tracks of all time, alongside Folabi, someone who is an iconic figure in the Christian music space. He has such a unique tone that is so distinctive, whatever genre or style of song he is on, you know it’s him. Working with Folabi was a dream as we both love the track so much.”
