One of the most engaging artists in Christian music, Blanca takes a few minutes out of her very busy schedule to chat with us on her own release day, nonetheless. Although it’s a short-stack, Blanca’s new set titled Real Love (buy) is HUGE on sound an quality. With CCM Magazine giving it a perfect “5-out-of-5 stars” right out of the gate, you’ll want to make sure to grab it early—especially if the EP is a foreshadowing of future things to come from this multi-talented singer-songwriter-dancer.
So, enjoy this brief chat with Blanca, as we get to know a little more about the new music and, since winter is approaching, what her and the family will be up to this Christmas!
CCM Magazine: Today your new EP drops and the flagship single “Real Love” has been out & all over the place—what kinds of comments & reactions are you enjoying from fans?
Blanca: It has been so beautiful to see the response I’ve been receiving from Real Love. SO many people have said that the song is exactly how they’ve been feeling but they just didn’t know how to put it to words. I’ve been overwhelmed with how many people, from all walks of life have been touched by the song.
CCM: The video for “Real Love” is striking. What was the inspiration behind this concept?
Blanca: I knew I wanted to keep everything surrounding the song “Real Love” as stripped down and raw as possible. I didn’t want anything to take away from the message and the lyrics in the song. So, that is what fueled the direction for the music video.
CCM: The poignant message of the single is a dart right through the heart of those frustrated with religion vs. relationship, why is it important for you to share this today?
Blanca: The battle between striving to earn God’s love by works and resting in who He is and in His unconditional love—that is something that I’ve struggled with for a while. Where I really saw this misconception of ‘real love’ heightened was when my mom was approaching her last days of life after a hard battle with cancer. The biggest fear she shared with me in those last moments was not making it into heaven. She feared she made too many mistakes and felt shame for her imperfections. She wondered if that’s why she hadn’t been healed. I realized in that moment that though we were in different places in our lives, we both were being held captive by a huge lie. God did some amazing things that day and I know without a shadow of a doubt my mom left in peace knowing that God had her covered. So this message of what “Real Love” truly is, is so important to me because so many of us are burnt out on religion, rules, boxes, works and striving. Meanwhile Jesus is just waiting for us to rest in what He’s already done. He loves us because that is who He is, not because we deserve it or need to earn it. So many of us are hungry for more, ready to go deeper, and I want this song to awaken that part in all of us.
