St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital gives, [fill in blank]? Truth is, many positive words could be inserted into that space. Or, perhaps, putting a period at the end of it simply says it all?

“St. Jude gives.”

And when it comes to the ongoing costs of treating life threatening diseases in the lives of thousands of children, entertainer and St. Jude founder Danny Thomas‘ core principle of, “No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay,” that phrase can hold extreme value. Joining in those core values, and shouldering the fight for children and families the world over, musicians from all walks of life and influence—as if made from the very mould of Thomas himself—bought in to the mission and participated in the hospital’s #MusicGives To St. Jude Kids Day (click to support). Last week, on August 4, 2017, artists and organizations had the opportunity to host concerts in their varying halls and communities to support Thomas’ ongoing vision of giving.

Additionally, the social media hashtag #MusicGives was created as a way for everyone from the big to the small, and the famous to the locally-known to allow that day live on, and to push the power of music into the life-giving soul of St. Jude and its patients and families. Among some of the well-known acts getting behind the cause, including the likes of Darius Rucker, Anthony Brown, Goo Goo Dolls, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Drew Holcomb among many others, is none other than superstar-entertainer Reba McEntire, as she has been behind St. Jude, it seems, from the start. “I am very glad to have this interview today, because I think St. Jude is a wonderful organization. I have been affiliated with them for many years, and know a lot of people in the country music business, Alabama being one, that are huge supporters of it,” said McIntire.

“When a family is in that situation and they don’t have the money, knowing that they can go to Memphis and go to St. Jude, and they don’t have to pay anything, that they just walk in and get help for their kids, their family, that’s a huge relief, and that helps everyone,” she adds. Releasing her debut gospel album earlier this year, Sing It Now – Songs Of Faith & Hope (buy), and just announced for being nominated for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Song Of The Year (“Back To God”) and Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Album Of The Year for the upcoming Dove Awards, McIntire jumped at the chance to further spread the word of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s deeds and to go in-depth on how #MusicGives has applied to her own life.
