You guys, it’s no surprise that Reach Records has been leading the way in faith-based music for the better part of a decade.
But right now, producer/artist extraordinaire GAWVI is on a whole ‘nother level.
He’s the only non-rapper on the Reach Records roster, but his urban EDM is some of the best music being released right now — Christian or not.
From his early stuff, like “Late Nights” to his surprise worship song “Hold On,” it’s clear GAWVI is comfortable in his own skin, talking about whatever is on his heart at a particular time. Sometimes he sings; sometimes he lets others do it. Whatever he does, he does it well.
With new album PANORAMA, he’s leveled up again.
My current favorite song is “Fight For Me.” The first time I heard it, I was captivated by the uncomfortably vulnerable and real lyrics:
Yeah, yeah, I need you to fight for me
When I don’t know what I believe, hey, hey
Why does everybody leave?
Show me what it’s like to dream
When I don’t know what I believe… why does everybody leave? Shoooooo.
The production also is pretty incredible. But it’s the lyrical honesty that grabs me and keeps me coming back.
Check out “Fight For Me” and then make your way through the rest of PANORAMA. I love “SLINGSHOT” (“off with his head!”) and the ode to marriage “With You.”
