Williamsburg, VA (July 23, 2022)
Four-time GRAMMY winner, for King & Country, filled Busch Gardens Royal Palace Theatre stage in the shadow of Griffon, my favorite rollercoaster, in Williamsburg, Virginia for the park’s Summer Celebration Concert Series. With the 90+ degree heat, the band delivered their signature action-packed show to a full house. The show started with Luke and Joel Smallbone “floating” above the floor singing the new song, “Relate” from their latest album What Are We Waiting For, then a bang of confetti kicked off fan favorite “Fix My Eyes.” Joel showcased his incredible vocal range in “Run Wild” while pulling out the bullhorn for the intro, twirling the mic stand like a baton, and adding crash cymbals to the fray. For “Fine Fine Life,” Luke and Joel jumped off stage and mingled in the audience taking pictures with fans at the back of the venue. With everyone just emerging from the pandemic in the last year, naturally the whole crowd was on its feet sweating and belting out the lyrics to “Together” and “Joy.” My favorite, but the most challenging, song to photograph of this band has always been “Proof of Your Love” where Benjamin tosses the cello and Joel leaps off the piano. You can find those photos in the gallery below. For the finale, For King and Country brought a little Christmas in July and delivered pulse-pounding beats in “Little Drummer Boy.”
