Story Behind the Song—”I Put My Trust”
“The song, ‘I Put My Trust’ came from Jason Cheek, Scott Hundley and I (Brett) attempting to capture the clear and bold statement declared in the hymn ‘Solid Rock.’ I always thought it was so powerful to sing those opening lines, it felt like an anthemic chorus to me. To set up the declarations of “I put my trust” and “My hope is built” in the chorus, we needed to set them up with trust—worship is a response to truth. So, we decided to tell the whole gospel with the verses. The bridge addresses how incredible and mysterious it is that God would save us in spite of the sinners we are.” The hope is that this song will lead people to consider the real truths of scripture and the great mystery of salvation!” —Brett Perkins
“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”
“I put my trust
In the promise of your grace, Jesus
My hope is built
On the power of Your name, Jesus.”
