Lacey Sturm has never been afraid to get loud about pain, hope, or the tension between the two. That tension was front and center in Pittsburgh on February 28, where she hosted a benefit concert for International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). But the night hit a new level when Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch stepped onstage to lead a mashup of Korn’s “Blind” and Flyleaf’s “I’m So Sick.”
The performance—which also features Tommy Green of HolyName and Trevor Tyson of Heal The Hurt—is now available to watch on Lacey’s official YouTube channel.
“My friend Brian Welch crashed our Pittsburgh IOCC benefit show last month by leading us in a ‘Blind/I’m So Sick’ mashup song,” Lacey says. “Both songs ring with the ache of honesty. This world is sick, and the evil here can blind us to hope— not knowing how to respond.”
Lacey’s voice has always carried conviction. From her days fronting Flyleaf to her solo work, she’s leaned into the grit of real-life struggle with a kind of defiant vulnerability. She’s walked through darkness and come out still screaming—but with purpose.
Brian “Head” Welch has a parallel story. As Korn’s guitarist and one of the pioneers of the nu-metal era, his riffs helped define a generation. But it’s his personal transformation—marked by addiction recovery and a very public faith journey—that’s kept his voice just as relevant offstage.
That shared understanding of pain and redemption made the mashup more than just a one-off. Joined by Tommy Green, whose own work with HolyName bridges hardcore and liturgy, and Trevor Tyson, a voice for mental health and healing, the performance captured the raw weight of their collective testimonies.
“That’s why we did the benefit show: to try to help,” Lacey continues. “We can’t stop all evil from happening, but we can overcome it. We can’t do everything, but we can do something.”
The concert raised support for IOCC, which provides humanitarian aid in some of the world’s most difficult places. For Lacey and crew, this was about channeling art into action.
She’s not slowing down anytime soon. Fans can catch her this summer on her Kenotic Metanoia West Coast Tour alongside Islander and Young Other. She’ll also make a special appearance at Warped Tour Orlando—a moment longtime fans won’t want to miss.
For those who’ve followed Lacey’s journey from chaos to clarity, this is another chapter—loud, unfiltered, and aimed straight at the heart.
