FOR RELEASE AUGUST 23, 2024
Honor & Glory, the worship project formed by members of Disciple, has released their own take on the anthemic Cody Carnes song “Firm Foundation (He Won’t).”

The song is the band’s first release since their 2022 debut self-titled album, and it precedes their upcoming Christmas tour. The song itself was written by Cody Carnes and popularized by Maverick City Worship, with lyrics that align perfectly with Honor & Glory’s purpose.

“When you sing a song and you see yourself in the song, I think it has a way of moving you differently,” band frontman Kevin Young reflects. “‘Firm Foundation’ was a song where I saw myself in the song, and it moved me in a way that made me feel like this is how I want to worship God right now: with this message.”

That message is the counter-intuitive truth of a God who only proves Himself more trustworthy through life’s storms.

“Almost everything about being a Christian is unnatural,” Young continues. “To trust when you don’t have the answers. To love someone who would hurt you. To have joy in chaos. Why would you do that? But when you experience Jesus and you walk with Him, you realize that He has this way of taking chaos, taking tragedy, taking storms, and somehow growing you through that. You come out the other side thankful for the storm. The story that is planted deep inside of you because of that storm, the story of redemption and the story of victory and the story of triumph over tragedy, doesn’t come without a storm.”

“Firm Foundation (He Won’t)” also serves to introduce Honor & Glory vocalist and guitarist Dane Allen (LOYALS) to listeners, as the singer’s soaring vocals take the lead on the second verse. Part of the band from its inception, Allen owns more of Honor & Glory’s sonic fingerprint with his smooth approach to the ethereal melody.

“I think we just wanted to do something new,” the singer reflects. “I remember on the bus, we were like, ‘we want to do “Firm Foundation,” so we need to map it out.’ We got my phone out, and Josiah and Andrew were on acoustic guitar, and me and Kevin just sang it into a voice memo. That ended up being the structure that we used on the song.”

The result retains the anthemic integrity of the original while overlaying Honor & Glory’s signature rock tones, creating an energetic song of declaration:

“Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I’ve never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
‘Cause He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?”

“That’s the beautiful promise that He gives us: very simply, that when we hear His word and do it, our life is like a man who built his house on the rock,” Kevin Young summarizes. “When the rains came, the winds came, the floods ravaged, everything around the house was still standing. It was built on rock.”
