Lloyd Nicks‘ latest release, “Common Ground,” carries a deeply personal message that reflects both his calling and his journey as an artist. The song was written with the intention of celebrating the diversity within the Church, bringing people from different backgrounds together to have healthy conversations and celebrate their differences. As a self-described “bridge builder,” Lloyd strives to create space for unity and understanding. He believes that the Church, in all its diversity, is a place where people from all walks of life can follow Jesus together, regardless of their social or economic backgrounds. “Common Ground” is more than just a song—it’s a beacon of hope for those who are on the fringes of faith, an invitation to see the beauty of unity in the Kingdom of God. Lloyd hopes that through this song, both believers and those outside the church will recognize that true love and acceptance are found only in Jesus Christ, and that the Church can be a shining example of that love.

Lloyd’s journey to becoming a prominent voice in Christian music has been far from conventional. Born and raised in St. Louis, Lloyd didn’t grow up in a Christian household and endured a difficult childhood marked by an abusive stepfather and a mother who was too broken to leave the situation. It wasn’t until the age of 14 that Lloyd found solace in a personal relationship with Jesus. Inspired by the hymns and songs he heard in church, he began his path toward becoming a worship leader and artist. Despite the trials he faced, including the loss of his mother to cancer on his 26th birthday, Lloyd’s faith only deepened, leading him to create songs that reflect total surrender to God. His music, from “Never Fail” to “Big God Big Love” and “Learning to Forgive,” all come from a place of vulnerability and trust in God’s plan. Now, with his unique blend of Gospel, Contemporary Worship, and Pop, Lloyd brings a fresh energy to Christian music, combining bold lyrics and dynamic beats to ignite a passion for Jesus in his listeners.

Story Behind:

“Common Ground” speaks to the core of who I am and who I’m called to be. I often say that I am a bridge builder. I love creating space for people from different backgrounds where we can have healthy conversations and celebrate our differences. I think that speaks to how the song was written. We were trying to figure out how we can tell the story of the Gospel in a way that’s different and fresh while celebrating differences that exist in the Church. What I love about the Church is that God has called people from different walks of life to follow Jesus together. We come from diverse economic backgrounds and diverse social backgrounds. The Kingdom is full of people from different races all uniting around Jesus. My hope is that Common Ground will not only unite His Church but it will act as a beacon of hope for those who are on the fringes of faith. My hope is that or those who are outside of the church walls can look at us and see us celebrating the commonality that we share together in the finished work of Jesus Christ. and that they will see that real love real and true acceptance is only found in Jesus. The Church itself can be a beacon of hope and God’s Kingdom comes together to celebrate His goodness.
