Mike Donehey, lead singer of Christian pop/rock band Tenth Avenue North is set to release his first book, Finding God’s Life for My Will: His Presence Is the Plan, August 6 on WaterBrook.
“Mike has been a friend of mine for years. He is equal parts fun and wise and kind. He says what he believes and he believes what he says. This book is full to the brim with words from a voice I trust because he lives out the gospel message without pretense and with tremendous vulnerability.” —Bob Goff, author of New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody Always
“Perhaps God isn’t giving me the plan because He wants to be the plan.”
This was the “aha” moment Mike had after years of wrestling with his obsession to know God’s specific plans for his life. Through a series of life events, Donehey discovered that begging and blackmailing God into revealing His plan was robbing him of the true freedom found in a Christ-filled life.
In Finding God’s Life for My Will: His Presence Is the Plan, Donehey creates a double-take on the age-old question, “How do I find God’s will for my life?” by rearranging the words into a bold, fresh concept of Finding God’s Life for My Will—seeing God as the plan, not simply the formula to the plan.
He uses his signature humor, captivating storytelling, and relentless hunger for God to challenge readers to surrender their own obsessions with knowing their future and instead trust-fall into wherever God leads.
Alongside his insightful teaching and funny childhood stories, Donehey opens up in total transparency about some of his own life challenges that have flipped his plans on their head—from his near-death experience in a car accident as a teen to later dealing with miscarriage, marital struggles, and the hardships of life on the road.
“I’ve seen some of the dreams I’ve had as a kid come to fruition, but I’ve also seen some of those dreams gloriously dashed,” says Donehey. “Finding more of God’s life for my will has taught me to hold all of the dreams I have with open hands. God doesn’t need me to accomplish any of my dreams after all; He wants to become my dreams.”
With more than 1.6 million social media followers, Tenth Avenue North is a favorite for many listeners of Christian music. Since the band formed in 2000, Donehey has shared the truth of the gospel in front of millions of people through song and speaking. Teens and millennials, fans of the band, as well as ministry leaders will appreciate Donehey’s honesty and relatability in his book as he invites them to move forward in their own lives, even without all of the answers in hand.
