Morrissa Nicole was introduced to music at a young age, honing her gifts as a classically trained pianist and vocalist. She won her first national songwriting competition at only seven years old, an early achievement that signaled her path. As she grew, her love for music expanded, and weekends were filled with joyful car rides around the city to perform in musicals, choirs, stage plays, and recitals. Her dedication to the arts continued into her teenage years, eventually leading her to become a trained actress, gaining her first television credit shortly after completing her studies with top Toronto acting coaches. This journey took her to the United States, where she released her first EP from Nashville, featuring the hit single “What If.” This song received radio acclaim before she turned twenty, leading to collaborations with gospel icons like Karen Clarke Sheard, Fred Hammond, and JJ Hairston. To Morrissa, music is a universal language that reaches hearts around the world, a conviction she stands by as a songwriter, pianist, and singer.
As an actress, Morrissa’s versatility has allowed her to shine in numerous roles. She has appeared on popular television series like Kim’s Convenience, Let It Snow on Netflix, and Toying With The Holidays on Lifetime. Her stage career has seen her perform in productions like High School Musical 2 and We Will Rock You on the North American tour, with a debut at Madison Square Garden in 2019. Today, Morrissa is thrilled to be the voice of CBC News’ The National and the animated character Lydia Loops on Lyla in the Loop, airing on PBS Kids in 2024.
Morrissa’s dedication to music and community extends into her service as the founder of Youth Empowered to Stand, a program at The Worship Center Ministries aimed at fostering a love for the arts among young people. Having earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies, she hopes to one day pursue her Master’s and Ph.D., motivated by her love for children and her commitment to uplift them through art.
For Morrissa, her faith is central to her work, and she uses music to share the love of Jesus. She says, “I sing to give a voice to the voiceless and to remind people of God’s heart for them.” Her favorite saying, “perfection doesn’t live here, grace does,” reflects her reliance on God’s grace in all she does.
Her latest album, Ready, was inspired by a powerful question during a church service when a member asked her, “Are you ready?” Initially unsure, Morrissa soon understood this question as a divine call. In response, this album explores the theme of spiritual readiness and aims to inspire listeners to open themselves to God’s will and blessings. With tracks designed to encourage healing, hope, and miracles, Morrissa’s music calls her audience to prepare their hearts for what God has in store.
The album’s spirit of unity is showcased in its title track, Ready to Receive, which features prominent Canadian worship leaders Brooke Nicholls, Trey Dehaney, Michael Manhertz, Christopher Samuels, and Melina Dulluku. This collaboration is one of the first of its kind within Canada’s Christian gospel community, and its impact is already evident, with 20K views on YouTube and growing radio traction. For Morrissa, Ready is more than an album; it’s an invitation for everyone to open their hearts to the divine, aligning themselves with God’s purpose.
