International speaker, author, and Encounter Church pastor and global humanitarian, Sarah Bowling, shares her mission to meet urgent survival needs for the most vulnerable population in new book, Hanging by a Thread: The Saving Moses Journey, available February 4, 2020.
One woman’s journey to Ethiopia in 2009 changed the direction of her life forever. Sarah Bowling’s discovery of two abandoned Ethiopian babies, and an orphanage’s refusal to care for them, led to the founding of international humanitarian organization Saving Moses, now celebrating their tenth anniversary.
In her upcoming book, Hanging by a Thread: The Saving Moses Journey, Bowling shares the story of creating a one-of-a-kind international aid organization to care for the most vulnerable population of all— babies—in some of the world’s most hostile environments. In 2018, 4,339 babies were saved from acute malnutrition, which contributes to 50% of childhood deaths in the developing world. The organization saves thousands of babies each year by meeting the most urgent and intense survival needs where help is least available.
“When I came to the realization that thousands of babies were being abandoned each year simply due to lack of funds, I couldn’t stay silent. I had to do something about it. Caring for these babies has brought so much joy to my life and the lives of many who volunteer with Saving Moses.”
—Sarah Bowling
Bowling found that a specific age group (five and younger) requires more resources and individualized attention than older children and many orphanages are forced to refuse care to babies because they simply cannot afford to provide adequate care.
After years of continued work in underdeveloped countries, NightCare, a program that provides a safe place for the children of sex workers to eat, sleep and be cared for while their mothers work, was established. NightCare provides good hygiene, nutrition, trauma-informed care, safety, love, and space to just be a kid to the little ones most affected by the sex industry. In 2018 alone, Saving Moses protected 316 babies from the sex industry.
This book brings awareness to the good work Saving Moses is providing around the world for babies and toddlers in need every day. It is an inspiration and encouragement for others to move by faith into the pain and emptiness they see around them and provide positive change for others in need.
About the Author:
Sarah Bowling is an international speaker and author, the co-host of Today with Marilyn and Sarah, and Co-Lead Pastor of Encounter Church. In 2009, she learned that many child-focused organizations do not offer aid to the zero-to-five population because of their specialized needs after meeting orphan babies who had been abandoned and could not find an orphanage home. She decided to address this need head-on by founding an organization, Saving Moses, that exists specifically for the world’s most vulnerable population, babies.
