On Friday, September 29, 2023 singer-songwriter Rorie will release her second full-length album, ‘Stones of Remembrance.’ The album is a compilation of singles that have released one at a time over the past two years, along with two brand new songs: highlight single “Still Small Voice,” and “State of Heart (Epilogue).”
The record is deeply personal, with all of the songs written and produced by Rorie herself (except for “Resonate” which was written by Rorie and produced by Grammy-nominated and Dove Award Winning producer Jordan Sapp, and “Hold Me Jesus” which is a cover originally written by beloved CCM artist Rich Mullins).
The tracks were written between 2020-2023, chronicling challenging times both globally and in her own life. The songs process seasons of grief, loss, and the ever-changing state of the world, all while focusing on Jesus and His saving grace and redemption.
Rorie’s storytelling is evident through the worshipful/testimonial “Unseen” and “Resonate” and in reflective songs such as “Still Small Voice” and “Glory, Glory (a Time Like This).” Sonically, the album contains dance-pop anthems such as “Mourning into Dancing” and the acoustic and confessional “Cry for Joy.”
The title was generally inspired by Joshua 4 when the Lord instructed the Israelites to gather 12 stones to both commemorate what God had done, and to be a reminder for future generations. The songs draw inspiration from Scripture: notably the birth and resurrection of Christ, Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus about salvation and being “born again,” the story of Elijah hearing the “Still Small Voice” of God in one of his lowest moments, and more. She also drew inspiration from quotes and biographies of historical women of faith such as Lilias Trotter (“Dear Life”) and Corrie Ten Boom (“State of Heart (Epilogue).”
From Rorie: “This is an album that I didn’t know I was going to make until it was happening! It tells a story that is very personal to me, but I hope it will connect to others too. I pray that this project will find its way to someone who will be blessed by it!”
