Writing Worship: How To Craft Heartfelt Songs for the Church is the debut book from Dove Award-winning songwriter Krissy Nordhoff, known for penning worship favorites including “Your Great Name,” “Mercy Tree” and “Famous For (I Believe).” In Writing Worship, Nordhoff invites aspiring and seasoned lyricists on a journey of exploration and skill development. While focusing on their relationship with God through prayer and two-way journaling, readers of varying skill levels will learn to craft lyrics and melodies, learn to self-edit during the writing process, clarify a song’s purpose and co-write songs customized for their churches and communities. Nordhoff also offers free resources such as video tutorials, a songwriter personality assessment, topical podcasts, a leader’s guide for group learning and a bonus audiobook.
Krissy is a professional songwriter, cofounder of the Brave Worship songwriting community, and creator of the Worship Songwriter Mentorship. Krissy grew up in a Christian home, learning a love for church music from her pianist grandmother. That love carried through the years as she attended Anderson University.
Realizing that her dreams were shifting away from travel and performing as she and her husband, Eric, welcomed children, Krissy began to focus on songwriting. She has garnered three Dove Award nominations for her efforts and won a Dove Award for Worship Song of
the Year for the beloved anthem “Your Great Name,” inspired by her own health battle and God’s healing. Her songs have been recorded by a variety of artists including Natalie Grant, Jenn Johnson, Tauren Wells, Mandisa, Darlene Zschech, David and Nicole Binion, Corey Voss, and many others.
Passionate about training and encouraging the next generation of worship songwriters, Krissy now mentors, teaches and creates resources, including informative podcasts and a “Songwriter Personality Test.” She has also penned a new book, Writing Worship: How To Craft Heartfelt Songs for the Church that offers spiritual and practical insights for aspiring songwriters and worship teams that
want to write original songs for their congregations.
