Renowned worship artist and celebrated communicator Tauren Wells is entering a vibrant new chapter, one that extends beyond his influential music career into pastoral leadership with the launch of Church of Whitestone in Austin, Texas. This exciting season also includes his powerful new worship EP, “Let the Church Sing,” releasing March 21st.
The seeds of this transformative journey were planted years earlier, deeply influenced by Wells’ tenure at Lakewood Church under Pastor Joel Osteen’s leadership. Reflecting on those formative years, Wells shared, “It was school every day, just watching the humility, the character, the intentionality of things, the thought processes behind how do we make the gospel alive for real people living real lives, not just a churchy version. And so, I’m leaning on those lessons every day.”
The decision to plant a church was not impulsive; it grew from a long-held vision Wells and his wife shared. “We moved in 2023 from Houston to the great city of Austin,” Wells explained. “God started sending people from Florida, Illinois, California, Tennessee, as part of our core team to help launch the church, and we opened the doors January 28th, 2024. It was an explosive Sunday, to say the least. We started the church with three services, and God just started to move.”
This bold step into pastoral ministry has profoundly impacted Wells’ approach to worship. His new EP, “Let the Church Sing,” reflects a deeply personal journey. Wells revealed, “These songs actually started in 2022, 2023 when God was really cultivating my heart and preparing me personally for this season, we’re now living in. It all feels very special and connected.”
The EP includes powerful tracks like “The Room Is Yours.” Describing the creation of this pivotal song, Wells shared, “We got together in our little makeshift studio, which was a closet in a co-working space, and just started to sing these words like, ‘The room is yours, come have your way.’ It was a paradigm flip because I don’t just want to make room for God—I want to recognize that the room is God’s.”
Wells emphasized that the EP was created to resonate broadly, breaking barriers and uniting listeners through authentic worship. “Worship is not a genre,” Wells passionately expressed. “Worship is a heart posture of a people. The songs that we create should just be the soundtrack that flows from that unified heart.”
Looking forward, Wells hopes “Let the Church Sing” and his leadership at Church of Whitestone will inspire a greater movement of unity and spiritual growth. He articulated this vision clearly, stating, “We’re not bringing something better than anything else in Austin—there are amazing churches in Austin—but we are expanding the kingdom through our church, and that’s what these songs are about.”
As Tauren Wells continues to expand his influential ministry through music and leadership, “Let the Church Sing” stands as an anthem of worship, unity, and spiritual renewal for communities everywhere. Available now on all streaming platforms, this EP invites listeners into a transformative worship experience, echoing the heartbeat of Wells’ new season of ministry and community.
