Rising gospel artist Shekts Nelson is set to release his highly anticipated new single, I Need You, on December 6, 2024. This deeply moving track, composed during the global challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, showcases Shekts’ unique ability to transform personal struggles into a universal plea for hope and divine intervention.

In I Need You, Shekts pours out raw emotion, reflecting the despair, uncertainty, and longing for God’s presence during one of the most difficult seasons of modern history. With heartfelt lyrics like “I need You; I can’t survive without You” and “Please, Lord, show me the way,” the song captures the vulnerability of feeling lost yet clinging to unwavering faith. Hailing from Goma, a city in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Shekts Nelson’s journey into music was anything but conventional. Influenced by his father, a prominent journalist who hosted popular music shows, Shekts fell in love with gospel music at a young age. At just 13, he formed a band with seven adult musicians, showing remarkable talent and determination beyond his years. Despite his passion, Shekts faced opposition from his father, who discouraged his musical pursuits in favor of academics. Local radio stations banned his songs, but his resilience led him to adopt a new stage name to forge his own path.

When conflict struck Goma, Shekts fled to Kampala, Uganda, where he began to seriously pursue his music career with the support of his mother. She helped fund his studio sessions, enabling him to focus fully on his calling. His debut single, I’m A Winner (2022), marked the beginning of an inspiring journey, followed by collaborations such as Hosanna featuring Nigerian artist Same OG.
