Paul Cardall | Ascensus Christi: A Piano Rhapsody

Acclaimed pianist and composer Paul Cardall, a Steinway & Sons Artist and Dove Award-winning musician, will release his latest masterpiece, Ascensus Christi: A Piano Rhapsody, on April 4, 2025. Inspired by the biblical account of Christ’s ascension, this powerful composition reflects on the mystery, awe, and eternal hope found in the promise of Heaven.

With his signature ability to translate faith into music, Cardall weaves expressive piano melodies with cinematic orchestration, capturing the wonder of Christ’s departure from Earth and His triumphant return to the Father. Beginning with a reverent, contemplative theme, the piece builds into a breathtaking crescendo, inviting listeners into a deeply spiritual journey that mirrors the hope and longing of the Easter season.

At its core, Ascensus Christi is a rhapsody—a free-flowing, expressive composition that moves fluidly between different moods, tempos, and emotions. Unlike structured musical forms, a rhapsody is known for its dramatic contrasts and sense of spontaneity, allowing for sweeping melodies, dynamic shifts, and an immersive emotional experience. Cardall’s interpretation of this form mirrors the journey of Christ’s ascension—beginning in solemnity and reflection, rising in power and glory, and culminating in an exhilarating expression of divine transcendence.

“The ascension is one of the most profound moments in Christian history—Christ’s victory over death and His promise of eternity,” says Paul Cardall, whose personal journey of faith, healing, and transformation has deeply influenced his artistry. “Through this music, I aimed to create something that invites people to reflect on that promise—to experience the mystery, the awe, and the joy of what lies beyond.”
