Blanca ‘Shattered’ Album Review

Blanca
Shattered
(Curb)

Blanca’s had no problem standing tall on her own after stepping away from the dynamic Group 1 Crew. Chart-topping hits like “Who I Am” secured her status as a powerful solo performer and Shattered, her latest LP, will make you forget she was ever part of a group in the first place.

Shattered melds Blanca’s modern pop grooves a la Alessia Cara or Pink with a sincere yearning for what she considers to be her guiding force. “I want Jesus and his real love,” she sings on “Real Love” as a response to her “real pain and real fears.” The honest appeals inside polished pop gems work to great effect, aided by Blanca’s no-limits vocal work, and the album’s favorites all line up in this tension, including the title track and “Best Part of Me.”
