Only a Holy God, the inaugural effort from Nashville-based worship group, Here Be Lions, accomplishes to what most worship albums and leaders aspire—accessibility and sing-ability. After one listen, or perhaps during the first, it’s nearly impossible not to sing along with choruses built with beautiful restraint and lyrics that translate the heart of the Father. The live recording lives up to its name, capturing the sonic offerings of a reverent, sincere audience singularly focused on God…Only a Holy God.
Likewise, as the Here Be Lions continually shifts lead vocals, they successfully avoid a fixation on any one voice; rather, collectively and humbly, they make it evident that their hearts are pointed up and out—not in. As the album seamlessly transitions from track to track, a reverent, yet joyful ambiance is maintained throughout. While there are few grandiose stand-out moments, there is a carefully-crafted track listing that encompasses the totality of our Holy God. Thought-provoking, heart-warming and spirit centering, this is a worship album that will not and should not be relegated to Sunday mornings alone. Anyone, any day at any time can hear the truth of the God of love and grace, while being reminded that they too are seen, known and loved by the One and only Holy God.
