Her ability to stir the soul kept right on rolling as she switched between a swinging big band medley, a soaring duets segment, additional hymns and signature songs. A back-to-back pairing of “Via Dolorosa” with “The Old Rugged Crossed” pretty much tore down the house, while “We Shall Behold Him” wrapped up the more than two-hour evening with Patty’s awe-inducing vocal acrobatics in essentially mint form.
Come the encore, the veteran was able to flex those pipes even further with an a capella treatment of “It Is Well,” prior to being joined by her piano player for the stirring Beth Nielsen Chapman ballad “How We Love.” In addition to once again sounding downright spectacular, Patty left the enraptured audience with the simple but poignant message of “all that mattered all along/all we have that carries on/is how we love” as she blinked back tears of appreciation surrounding this final chapter in the inspirational journey of a lifetime.
