Not since Lecrae has Christian hip-hop experienced an innovator and entertainer to the degree of Steven Malcolm. The rapper-writer, who’s currently making a major splash warming up for Winter Jam, takes the most immediate sounds from radio, hints of trap, regional flavors and reggae influences to sculpt a diverse label debut worth discovering. Lyrically speaking, he puts faith into practice with shared emphasis on autobiographical revelations and cultural relevance, calling on all to celebrate life throughout “Party In The Hills” (featuring Hollyn and Andy Mineo—which can also be heard on Hollyn’s new album One-Way Conversations, Gotee Records) providing a motivational anthem to pursue personal passions in “Hot Boy” and serving up some soulful inspiration on a stirring collaboration with Blanca during “Never Let You Go.”
